Umbrella Over Music Industry?

E-mail Print PDF
Ever wondered why for the last few years, most National Music Concerts are left to the Music Association and not professional Event Organizers? Well, most people think it makes lots of sense that such associations are left to handle such events but we at http://www.pinnaclegh.com think it is not necessarily right. For us it is fine if they are made to choose, contact and deal with performing artistes for such events but not been made to drift into other professional areas other than that of their core essence of existence. Assuming without admitting that our stance is wrong; is it not alarming that the baton has been passed to Radio Presenters. In a few weeks Ghana will be playing host to arguably the most popular and powerful man in the world today, Barrack Obama. We reported that Blakk Rasta and three others, Fiifi Banson, Nathaniel Adisi (Bola Ray) and Abeiku Santana have been put in charge of organizing a concert to be staged a night before the arrival of the American President in his honour. As to why these Radio presenters were put in charge of the organization of the event, we cannot tell. These are exceptional individuals who have distinguished themselves in their chosen career but would it be okay if a nurse was to operate on you? The nurse and the surgeon work in the same health industry and probably the same hospital but a nurse does the work of a nurse and the surgeon that of a surgeon. These fine individuals work in the Entertainment Industry but why should they be put in charge of organizing, a Musical Concert when there is a Music Association and countless event organizers. Just may be Blakk Rasta’s inclusion on any such group or committee will pass a logical test as he doubles as a musician and is probably the most vibrant supporter of the visiting president. The reason(s) for the selection of the other three is/are unknown but http://www.pinnaclegh.com is free to speculate thanks to the Rule of Law and the Fundamental Right that ensures freedom of speech. These individuals have a couple of things in common, they work with the most influential FM stations in Accra, they host drive shows and it is almost a certainty that together they have listenership of about half of the city when they are presenting their shows. Again their shows start and end around the same time. Well, it is difficult to tell why but we hope that this is not an effort to buy these individuals, even if it is what do we care? Our only problem is that our music industry be left alone; It has its’ own problems. If governments will not support it, it should not use it as a politicking tool. Our Arts and Culture should be devoid of political colours. We ask, is the decision to put these Presenters in charge of the Obama Concert a “Populace Decision or a Prudent One? Just may be our democracy have not developed to the point where Influential Musicians should have openly campaigned for a candidate during the 2008 Presidential Elections.

2009-06-2404:08:06 This is completely an ignominious to believe as if there are no influencial artistes or musicians who are not educated or skilled enuogh to handle such event. The reason always seems to stem from the that music union or the music industry in Ghana is operated under the auspicies of poeple we believe to have acquire high level of education or people who can speak good english at the public gatherings which always seems to expel musicians from taking lead in emergency decisions.I'm really dissappointed if Djs or presenters are treated with respectability and honesty more comparatively than an artist or a musician base on the slightest fact that the play a vital role in promoting artist's work or music on the airwaves.I cannot conclude imminently that the above named radio presenters are not capable of taking the job but I smell something fishy about the selection of artists who would be performed to entertain the president and his white house crews. For all that I know mr obama likes hip
